Story....

Vinnaithandi Varuvaya is all about falling in love, the emotions, confusions and the innumerable rollercoaster sensations associated with it. Karthik (Silambarasan), a mechanical engineer is an aspiring film director. It is love at first sight for this young man with his landlord’s daughter Jessy (Trisha), a Malayalee Christian and a computer professional. Karthik expresses his love to her in a quite unexpected manner but she does not accept it citing practical reasons. Notwithstanding her absence even for a short while, Karthik, in her pursuit, reaches Kerala along with his cinematographer friend Ganesh.
He finds Jessy in the pretext of apologizing to her for his behavior but earns her friendship. The ensuing train trip to Chennai from Allapuzha paves way for a deeper bond between the two. Meanwhile Karthik rubs Jessy’s brother on the wrong side which creates a wedge between the two families and Karthik’s family is made to vacate the premises. This triggers the hasty fixing of marriage for Jessy in Kerala. Needless to say, Karthik reaches there and what happens thereafter form the crux of Vinnai Thaandi Varuavaayaa. The answers to questions like whether Karthik and Jessy unite in marriage or go their individual ways are narrated with a trademark Gautham Menon’s style.

Indian master blaster Sachin Tendulkar created history on Wednesday by slamming the first ever double century in the history of ODI cricket.

Batting first after India had won the toss, Tendulkar batted his way into the annals by breaking a 13 year old record – which had earlier been equalled – by scoring a double century.

India were buoyed by Tendulkar’s presence at the crease and ended with 401/3 in the fifty overs – their third ever total over 400 in the ODIs – and enhanced their chances of winning the series.

India already lead 1-0 after having won the first ODI that was played at Jaipur earlier this week.

India had lost Virender Sehwag early, but in the company of Dinesh Karthik who scored 79, Yusuf Pathan, who made 36 off 23 and MS Dhoni who went on to smash a 35-ball 68, Tendulkar batted like a true magician to get to that most coveted landmark.

The Ajith-Saran combination is at it again. Asal is in theaters and it is celebration time for all Ajith fans. If sources are to be believed, Shah Rukh Khan has given dates to producer Viveck Vaswani to shoot for the final leg of DULHA MIL GAYA which involves filming of a song. The film has already been completely shot except for this song sequence and has been awaiting Shah Rukh’s arrival on the scene to mark it’s 100% completion.

Says a reliable source closely attached to the film, “There was only one song, a qawalli, which was remaining to be picturised on Shah Rukh Khan and Sushmita Sen. Now that Shah Rukh has given dates, the song would be shot in May. There was some balance shoot that was left; however even that was completed on a cruise ship in Malaysia last week under the supervision of action director Aamar Shetty.”

Further confirms Viveck Vaswani who has been patiently waiting for the film to reach it’s finishing mark. “DULHA MIL GAYA has commenced post production. In fact dubbing has already begun at Yashraj studios under the supervision of sound designer Anuj Mathur. Moreover, graphics and special effects are also on at Tata Elxsi under the supervision of Pankaj Khandpur.

Movie Story:

The debutant director Sakthivel and producers AGS Entertainment’s have dished out a clean, sweet, simple love story. It has enough charm to yield a fun matinee for 2 hours and 15 minutes.

But that’s it, as the film has nothing new in it story wise or in treatment. The first half is fun and frolic plus three songs, two of them dream songs in foreign locales. Post interval it takes a different route and becomes an action masala set in Kollywood’s wild west- South Tamil Nadu mainly Nagercovil.

Nakulan, one of the five boys in director Shankar's 'Boys', has grown in stature to establish himself as one of the important heroes in Tamil film industry.

After a good showing in 'Kadhalil Vizhunthen' and 'Masilamani', the young actor is now ready with 'Kandha Kottai', a film by debutantdirector Sakthivel.

Produced by Kalpathi S Agoram for AGS Entertainment, the movie has Poorna of 'Muniyandi Vilangiyal Moonramandu' fame as the heroine. Dheena has scored music.

Claiming that Nakulan would fulfill the expectations of the audience in 'Kandha Kottai', the director of the movie says: "He is a dedicated actor who takes pains for perfection. He delivers what the director wants."

The story is about a guy Siva (Nakul) who lives in Kandha Kottai, a residential colony in Chennai and has some friends like Santhanam who is always running after girls. However Siva loves to play spoil sport and separate lovers who are planning to get hitched. At the other extreme is our heroine Pooja (Poorna) a college student residing in Nagercovil who loves to play cupid and unite lovers.

Their look and behavior is quite monkey like, but their brain is much more developed than a human being. They are harmless and love to live unified in their own world. When some people try to intrude their land in search of some rare kind of minerals, they become impatient and aggressive.

Here comes the actual story. Jake, who is completely innocent about the minerals and everything, becomes a part of the infringement. Avatars take many policies and steps to win over the Na’vis. Audiences here can see some excellent movie and sound effects which are just awesome. James has successfully blended a love story in this adventurous thriller. Jake falls in love with a beautiful, young Na’vi girl. What will happen then? Let it not unfold here, otherwise you will lose interest to watch this film.

It can be said that it is a must watch movie. The cinematography, sound effects, editing special effects; all are just excellent. The director has shown innovation in creating the Nav’s. These blue complexioned, monkey types elements are excellently featured in this film. Sam Worthington is wonderful. This thirty three years old Australian movie star has done a brilliant job. He makes his character convincing to the audiences. Other artists have also justified their characters. The movie is going to be released worldwide on the 18th December, 2009. It is hoped that it would be one of the most block bluster Hollywood movies.

Movie Review:

The story goes like this: Sakthi is a happy-go-lucky guy, but his father Sethupathi, a clerk, has great dreams that his son should become a successful engineer. Realizing Sakthi’s inability to be outstanding in studies due to his limited brainpower, his father stops compelling him to become an engineer; rather, he inspires him to choose any vocation he can shine in! Sakthi’s peaceful family life suddenly vanishes when his parents are brutally murdered (in front of him and an apathetic public) by Kathir, prime accused of a murder case in which Sakthi’s father was a key eyewitness. Broken up by the painful and tragic loss of his loving parents, Sakthi decides to take revenge, but in vain. He is caught in his murder attempt due to his inexperience and remanded for 14 days

Due to his shy nature, Sakthi has to undergo severe harassments from the jail guards, where he meets four young, inborn criminals including lame Dabba and fat guy Pandu. He becomes friendly with them only to avoid torment from the jailers. Sakthi has no plans to join the group, but at the same time, is greatly attracted by their love and concerns. The four guys plan to escape from jail; at the last moment, they forcibly take Sakthi to the world of freedom and gradually introduce him to a criminal life.

In flashback, the guys come to know about Sakthi’s past and decide to kill Kathir. After executing Kathir, the five friends take a train to Mumbai to avoid the police special force, but fate leads them to a local don in Renigunta (near Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh). In Renigunta, Sakthi meets a dumb girl and love slowly blossoms between them. In fact, the girl’s brother-in-law is a pimp, procuring for his own wife. Realizing her husband’s intention to introduce her dumb sister into the fresh trade, the akka requests Sakthi to elope with her younger sister. With the consent his friends, Sakthi fixes a date to leave the place with his lover.

Meanwhile, the local don hires these five friends to kill a prominent contractor, leading to a big twist in the whole story. The murder attempt fails; Pandu is beaten to death on the spot by contractor’s security guards. The special force swoops down on the rest of the teammates who are brutally killed one by one, except for Sakthi. Whether he manages to escape from the police and accomplish his dream of a peaceful life with his lover forms the rest of the film.

One can’t say that Renigunta only has bloody violence; it also has plenty of (black) comedy, romance and sentiments, and all components are convincingly presented just as in Subramaniapuram. Thanks to director Panneerselvam, Renigunta is completely free from any sort of exaggeration, be it in graphics, number of songs, length and “superman effects” of the fight scenes. All credit goes to Panneerselvam’s clean script, the highlight of the film, which gives everything in the right proportion. In short, Renigunta simply rocks!

Sashi Kumar's character is interesting. He's straight, no love letters and no hesitation when he proposes to Sailaja. He even explains to her that there is nothing such as love and that it is hormones that attract two living things, it is the society that has created certain mores and customs to control the animal instinct and has given it a legal status called marriage to cohabit. Love could arise anytime or there could be no love at all. Sailaja finds the explanation unsettling and cannot imagine a relationship without love and finds the hero's character full of hypocricy.

A simple concept such as this has been shown in a very simple manner and it could be a rewarding experience for college students who are going through the first flush of love/attraction. Jagapati Babu does his bit too vary his looks and his performance is endearing and stands out. He plays the indifference to perfection. Priyamani is growing as an actress with every film and has taken her character's ego, haughtiness and peculiarity to another level by giving the right expressions. Brahmanandam is funny, never take sit too far, just right as a man who carries tales to Priyamani.

Ameer is come back on his new film Yogi. Yogi Tamil movie for base on Life in slums has distorted a set. There are many former students and IT staff living there. We have story the travails of a youth alive in one such Chennai slum in Yogi. Yogi Tamil movie produced by Ameer’s Team Work creation is ready to hit the television this weekend.

Would he be as good in selecting a story to cast himself in, was the big question, given that ‘Paruthiveeran’ ended up as the most cloned film in recent times.

However, he has chosen a role that does not call for a power packed performance. The Chennai thuggie, tough and mean, has been played by everyone from Jiiva to ‘Jayam’ Ravi, the only difference being in the number of baddies each one can tackle.

What is even more disappointing is that ‘Yogi’ reminds you too much of‘Tsotsi’, Gavin Hood’s brilliantly made film on a ruthless killer and his epiphanous meeting with a small baby, in a rob-and-run case which goes horribly wrong..Left holding the baby, Tsotsi takes care of it including changing diapers, finds a foster mother to breast the child and distances himself from his cronies. Gradually, he has a change of heart and decides to return the child.Hood’s handling of the Tsotsi’s harrowing past as an abused child is shown in fine flash back, and the boy’s sorrow, and the film’s climax are images which are unlikely to be forgotten.

Considering that the story and dialogues are by Ameer, the close prattle between the two films is a tad disappointing. Showing the baby Jessie father Lynden Fernando (Asokan) as wanting to kill the baby because she was fathered by someone else in unconvincing. There is very little by way of depth of characterisation, and the director over-stretches episodes by way of tears or extended abuse. Given that it around us all the time, merely portraying the same does not leave you shaken and stirred.However, Yogi is raw in many places, and acting sits easily on his shoulders. he makes very effective use of his eyes, and unlike the original there are plenty of fight scenes here. Madhumitha as the foster mother easily cruises between high hysteria and soft firmness. Devarajan, as the abusive father stands out, but Tamil cinema has been too full of such characters. Wish Ameer had shown a little more care in shaping the story.

One might argue that even the first part too looked pretty much like a glamour parade. But, there was also the plot of the police being on the trail of this serial womanizer, his eventual arrest and an interesting courtroom battle where the accused becomes the acquitted through continuous denial and careful arguments. This element goes missing here. The law is not after him. The women who have been subject to his treachery do try to get back at him together, but it is too weak and too late in the movie to salvage lost interest.

It is a timid sort of a response to a huge fraud that has been committed and is snuffed out pretty nonchalantly by the criminal; does not make for engaging viewing at all. It is as if the Casanova is walking from room to room through doors that open at a click; the women fall so easily into his trap. He moves from one woman to the next, easily accomplishes his mission and takes away a huge amount of money. It is like different episodes of the Casanova’s exploits being put together.

The only connecting subplot comes in the form of Sangeetha’s character that plays a handicapped immigrant Sri Lankan widow. She is facing a tough situation regarding the custody of her only child. She needs money to settle the issue and surprisingly our Casanova comes to her aid, giving her the required amount which of course has been aggregated from his games with many innocent women. The climax too is on expected lines. He easily evades the efforts of the wronged women to corner him and escapes to some distant place where he is ready to begin his games afresh. The means that another sequel is on the minds of the makers!

Going by its casting, do not expect De Dana Dan to be a sequel, tribute or extension of the Hera Pheri series. Forget the threesome chemistry, there is hardly a single frame in the film where the trio of Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty and Paresh Rawal share screen space. Except of course for the trademark Priyadarshan style chaotic climax where again their chemistry is diluted (literally through flooding fuss) as the entire cast joins them for more commotion.

Nitin Bankar (Akshay Kumar) is a driver under debt and Ram Mishra (Sunil Shetty) is a courier boy who hasn’t delivered much in life. Though both have already assigned girlfriends (Katrina, Sameera) for them, the film still takes too long to come to point. Money is the need of the hour and so Priyadarshan does some hera pheri in the story – which means a kidnap. Just this time the duo kidnaps a canine and you wonder if the film is going to the dogs.

A movie on the life of one of the greatest of the rulers of Kerala has been in the rounds for the last two decades. In fact, MT Vasudevan Nair, one of the master scriptwriters of all times, had been on this thinking from the days of his 'Oru Vadakkan Veergatha' which came out in 1989. Now after 18 years from this epoch making movie, 'Pazhassi Raja' is slowly but steadily shaping up under the directorial ship of ace director Hariharan,to become the biggest epic movie of our times.

The movie which was in the making since May, last year is into its last session which will get completed with another 25 days of shoot. Most of the important scenes of the movie are shot with four cameras working simultaneously. The movie planned with the biggest ever budget for a Malayalam movie (rumored to be more than eight crores), is produced by Gokulam Gopalan, who also consider the movie as his prestige project.

This magnum opus is expected to bring out the story of the first organized revolt against British rule, led by Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja of the Padinjare Kovilakom of the Kottayam family near Thalassery in Kannur district.

"The story of ‘Pazhassi Raja' one of our first, but least known freedom fighters, appealed to me also because it offered tremendous visual possibilities in the backdrops of the forests and the wars. We know about the high expectations people haveon the film and are confident that we will be able to live up to it'', says the director Hariharan.

‘Pazhassi Raja’ popularly known as the Lion of Kerala isn't well known outside Kerala, but he was one of our country's first freedom fighters. He had to reckon with the armies of the Mysore rulers as well as the British. The British first used him against Tipu's army and then reneged on their treaty. And more, the Raja was agitated by the unpopular revenue policy followed by the East India Company in Malabar .He then threatened to stop collecting taxes if the Company continued with this mode of revenue collection. Even before the much celebrated Sepoy Mutiny of 1857, Raja spear headed an attack againstthe British who made a futile attempt to capture the Raja in his own palace at Pazhassi in April 1796.

The British company then made proclamations which forbid people from supporting the Raja, threatening to confiscate the property of all who are supporting Pazhassi. In 1797 the Raja's men launched attackon the security personnel stationed at Pazhassi, and in continuous battles that were fought over three days, Pazhassi's men were able to overpowerthe British forces, using swords, spears, bows and arrows . With an army of thousands of Nairs , Pazhassi inflicted such defeat on the British that they were forced to retreat and negotiate. This forced the British to sign a temporary armistice, in accordance with Raja's wishes.

‘Pazhassi Raja’ once again revolted against the occupants when the British decide to take over Wynad in 1799, after the fall of Sreerenga Patanam. This time the British had an upper hand as they controlled most of the south. They confiscated Raja's properties and proclaimed a reward for capturing him. Raja who fled from the palace, took refuge in the jungles accompanied by his wife and immediate attendants.

Raja tried to continue his warfare with the help of aadivasas and his loyal Kurichiyar tribe. Using guerrilla tactics and informers, he kept the British on tenterhooks for longer than any other regional ruler. But on November 30 1805, the Raja was surrounded by Thomas Harvey Babar, a young British officer on charge of suppressing Pazhaassi and was shot dead in an operationon the banks of Mavila Thodu.

Hariharan, MT Vasudevan Nair and Mammootty, are sure that they are in the making of and a film that will become a milestone in Malayalam cinema.

Pazhassi Raja is a historical subject. Mammootty, Hariharan and MT Vasudevan Nair who gave Oru Vadakkan Veeragaatha to malayalam cinema is now doing this film. Movie Review:

Debutant director J S Saravana Krishna has tried his hand at a romantic film that is about a youth who falls for a girl and the way his life takes a turn after he fails in romance. Produced by J S Kannan, the movie is set in a village in Karaikudi which culminates at Sri Rangam.

Noted choreographer John Babu's son Vikas has made his foray into tinsel town as hero, with Mumbai girl Sonia Kumari in the female lead. Saravana Krishna has tried to picturise the travails of a youth defeated in love. It's indeed a new climax on screen, however with the rest more cliched.

Siva (Vikas) is a mentally retarded person and begs in front of a temple in Sri Rangam. He goes wild after seeing fire in a yagna. A flashback begins. It reveals Siva as a bubbly young youth, who freaks out in the village with his friends. He comes across Anjali (Sonia Kumari), daughter of the local bigwig (Mahadevan).

After initial misunderstandings, romance blossoms between Siva and Anjali. But the girl's father is against their wedding. He arranges for her marriage. Coming to know of it, Siva rescues her and takes her with him. He is chased by henchmen before he enters a burial ground to escape from them. There a sorrow occurs in his life and he loses Anjali.

Vikas doesn't look like an amateur. He has played his part well. He excels in dance sequences. Sonia Kumari fits the best in traditional costumes. Sukumar, Mahadevan and Meera Krishnan are also good. Music by Sirpi is good especially the romantic numbers.

In short, the movie is enjoyable in parts.

Madurai is the toast of Tamil cinema. A host of action-packed movies are being made centered around the temple town. ‘Madurai Sambavam’ is one more in the list which is about gang war, betrayal, revenge and of course some romance.

Seemingly a rehash of several mass masala entertainers, ‘Madurai Sambavam’ is about an angry young man Kutty (played by choreographer actor Harikumar). Debutant director Yureka, a lyricist too, has churned out the whole movie in and around Madurai. A group of men running with sickles, gun-totting men on revenge mode find place in the movie. After a long gap, one gets to see Radha Ravi playing an all-important role. As a don and a good-hearted influential men in Madurai, he impresses everyone.

Aalamaram (Radha Ravi) is dreaded by his enemies in Aattuthotti in Madurai. He involves in ‘katta panchayat’ but strives to do his best for the people in the neighborhood. He is adored and respected by everyone there. He is assisted by his son Kutty (Harikumar) and his son-in-law. There is Gomathi (Karthika), Kutty’s niece who loves him madly. And there are local MP Cutout Ganesan (Kathal Dhandapani) and DIG (Raj Kapoor), both keen to bump off Aalamaram and Kutty.

Enters a women cop Caroline Thomas (Anuya). She assumes all powers and she succeeds in finishing Aalamaram. Meanwhile, Caroline meets Kutty and love blossoms between them. Eventually a sequence of events leads to an interesting climax.

Harikumar is apt for the role of a Madurai youth. His body language and diction deserves special mention. Anuya steals the show playing a tough cop. Her subtle expressions and emotions towards the climax deserve special mention. Karthika is adequate for the role. John Peter’s music is racy while Sukumar captures Madurai and its neighborhood well.

All said, ‘Madurai Sambavam’, has some loose ends. But forget the logic, you an enjoy this earthy entertainer.

Varun Sandesh is a jobless, happy-go-lucky, bike-crazy guy wasting his time with his friends. After a drunken party and a fight with his father, the latter gives him most of his savings to go do something with his life. Much to his parents chagrin he buys a bike, but they cool down once he gets a job as a recovery agent at a bank because of the bike. He even musters up courage to tell his bus-stop girl friend about his feelings and everything falls into place until his bike gets stolen. Then he is pulled into mafia dealings and gets into trouble with the goons, the police; his whole life falls into jeopardy while he fights for what’s right and what’s his.

The first scene itself starts out with promise-and violence, a trend that continues throughout the movie. The real action doesn’t start until his bike gets stolen and then we are taken back to the first scene (the rest of the first half and half of the second is the flashback). He gets into trouble with goons and police alike, and shows his fearlessness with both. Of course, apart from the heroism, there are ’skinny’ jokes about the main lead, one of them with Ali (where he calls him ‘Bakka Raja‘) gets a few laughs. There are loads of fights, including the big, predictable climax fight with slow-motion movements.

Year 2022. Prime Minister Traiphop has set up the National Disaster Center under the care of Dr Siam. But Dr Siam fails to predict a major earthquake, which jeopardises the political future of the prime minister. Then the mother of all tsunamis strikes the Gulf of Thailand and devastates Bangkok.

A wave of twisted moralism washes over the audience in 2022 Tsunami (2022), an overly dramatic, disaster-epic version of Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth, or a low-rent version of director Roland Emmerich's The Day After Tomorrow (or his upcoming 2022 Tsunami).

Bluntly and artlessly, Toranong Srichua uses his film as a cudgel to beat the topic of climate change senseless. An old-time social-realism moviemaker, he wants to show audiences the reality, but it is difficult to take his message seriously.

Never mind that 2022 Tsunami is only fitfully entertaining -- mostly unintentionally so because of the melodramatic acting and cartoonish CGI. All the moralizing and preaching about nice cars, fancy shopping malls and skytrain transport systems rings hollow when it's those very things that Toranong depends on in order for people to see his movie.

And, as he's so fond of pointing out numerous times in the film, none of it is going to matter anyway when the big wave hits, because everything will be gone.

So what's the point of anything? Especially of seeing this movie? Or writing this review? But I shall press on.

Thailand of 2022 looks remarkably like Bangkok of 2009. Same cars, pretty much the same skyscrapers, same skytrain and the same messed-up politics. About the only thing different is a giant Buddha statue, standing like the Statue of Liberty, in the Bight of Bangkok. The Buddha is holding a hand out in front, as if to say "Stop! You shall not pass." The Buddha figure later becomes a "Thai guardian angel" in the closing action scenes.

Leading Thailand's government is a prime minister (Panudej Wattanasuchat) who's on-message about climate change, its detrimental effects on the environment and its cause -- us. The movie opens with him addressing some kind of UN function, saying more needs to be done, and quickly, or else it's going to be too late.

As if to underline his point, a small earthquake rattles Bangkok, spooking everyone.

"2012" is a glorious disaster. It's loud, obnoxiously superfluous, over-extravagant, and dumb as dirt, yet the one thing it isn't is boring. I couldn't stop laughing, and while I'm not sure that is the goal Emmerich had in mind, "2012" will only work if you check your mind at the door and ride the storm of senselessness.

Playing off the controversial Mayan prediction of global doomsday three years from now, "2012" switches among various story arcs that eventually intertwine in the movie's exhaustingly extended finale. There's the political side, in which a scientist (Chiwetal Ejiofor) discovers that the end of the world is indeed near, and shares the information with a greedy sleaze ball (Oliver Platt) and the President himself (Danny Glover), all of whom take appropriate action.....

Jail is Hindi movie directed by Madhur Bhandarkar and starring Neil Nitin Mukesh, Mugdha Godse and Manoj Bajpai.

Music has been given by Sharib Sabri, Toshi Sabri. Parag Dixit (Neil Nitin Mukesh) who is having a peaceful life with his wife Mansi(Mugdha Godse) . But his life takes a turn and he ends up in jail due to some unfortunate events. Manoj Bajpai plays another inmate in the jail.

AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI [2009]

Movie Review:

The one thing you can't overlook noticing in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani is how Rajkumar Santoshi takes liberal references from every popular prem kahani of Bollywood and ends up with an ajeeb (weird) jumbled screenplay.

Prem (Ranbir Kapoor), with his friends, runs a Happy Club that works towards uniting people in love. When a new-girl Jenny (Katrina Kaif) shifts in the fancy town, Prem is predictably attracted towards her but doesn't dare to propose till half the film. So when Jenny accepts Prem's proposal and they start singing songs, you clearly know it's a dream sequence.

Jenny's foster-parents take her to Goa to get her married against her will. Prem reaches there and promises to bail her out of the situation ala Shah Rukh Khan from DDLJ. Soon Jenny reveals she loves Rahul (Upen Patel) giving the film a Jab We Met triangular twist. Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa comes into picture as Prem tries hard to get Rahul away from Jenny.
